Required Minnesota Tests |
MCA-II and MCA-III tests are the state tests used to measure student learning according to state standards. These tests are required under No Child Left Behind to determine AYP, Adequate Yearly Progress. MCA-II Reading tests are paper and pencil tests. MCA-III Math is administered on computers
GRAD tests are Minnesota graduation tests. These tests replace the Basic Skills Tests (BST). Students must pass these tests in order to graduate:
9th grade----GRAD Written Composition
10th grade--GRAD Reading
11th grade--GRAD Mathematics
For 2011-2012, a 12th grade student who did not pass GRAD Math in spring of 2009 must receive remediation and retest. If a student does not pass after two retests, he or she may graduate if all other graduation requirements are met.
GRAD Reading and Math are embedded in the MCA-II tests. Students are able to retake the GRAD portions of these tests until they meet passing scores. Retests for GRAD Reading & Math are scheduled monthly beginning in October. Parents and students will be notified when they are eligible to retest.
GRAD Written Composition retest is scheduled for November 2. Parents and students will be notified when they are eligible to retest.
MCA-II Science tests are administered by computer in grades 5, 8, and 10 (the year the high school student is enrolled in high school Biology. These tests do not count toward Adequate Yearly Progress but are required by the state of Minnesota.
